The Economic Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, has reacted to the arrest of Dr. Doyin Okupe in Lagos.
Okupe was arrested at the Lagos International Airport by the Department of State Service, DSS, while on his way to London on Thursday morning.
Confirming the arrest, Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesman, said in a statement made available to newsmen that, “Doyin Okupe was intercepted by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, this morning (Thursday) at the instance of the EFCC.
In its reaction, the EFCC said Doyin Okupe was arrested in an error based on the 2016 watchlist of the Commission.
Okupe was recently convicted for money laundering by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
He was said to have been released after the arrest.

Interception of Doyin Okupe
The Department of State Services, DSS, today, January 12, informed the Commission of the interception of Dr. Doyin Okupe, former presidential adviser, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The Service acted on a Watch-list request issued on July 18, 2016, over six years before his recent conviction on money laundering charges by the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The Commission was in the process of formally lifting the watch-list before his interception and will expedite action in this regard.
