A former governor of Ekiti State, on Wednesday, Segun Oni, dismissed speculations that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, who is also a presidential aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, APC, might join the Social Democratic Party, SDP, as “mere speculation.”
After inaugurating the SDP sub-convention committee in Abuja; he was asked about speculations that Tinubu would abandon the All Progressives Congress if he failed to clinch the party’s presidential ticket in the 2023 general election.
He claimed that, contrary to popular belief, the SDP was not in crisis and thus not factionalized.
However, Oni, the SDP governorship candidate in Ekiti’s upcoming governorship race, stated that the party remained open to anyone who shared its vision and mission; as well as those who were willing to enhance democracy and good governance.
He assured aspirants and observers that the convention would be transparent, devoid of vote-buying, delegates’ inducement, and rancour.
“Too many speculations! Let me say that we are Social Democratic Party. As far as we are concerned our doors are open to everybody. We are not locking opportunities here. We will wait, Oni said.
“Every process will be taken seriously and without any preference. So, do not speculate too far. We are going to have our convention.”
