OpenAI has secured $40 billion in funding, one of the largest private funding rounds in history. This investment values the company at $300 billion.
In a statement on its website, the AI leading platform says the investment will help “push the frontiers of AI research even further, scale our compute infrastructure, and deliver increasingly powerful tools for the 500 million people who use ChatGPT every week.
The company also revealed its partnership with SoftBank Group, whose backing will enable OpenAI to “continue building AI systems that drive scientific discovery, enable personalised education, enhance human creativity, and pave the way toward AGI that benefits all of humanity.”
SoftBank could cut its investment to $20 billion—half the original amount, If it fails to restructure in time.
The accelerated timeline, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, adds pressure on the Microsoft-backed firm, which initially had a two-year window after its last funding round.
